Recently, I have been starting a little California native garden. My garden includes poppies,(the California state flower) Narrow Leaf Milkweed, Salmon Pink Yarrow, and Verbena De La Mina. If am thinking of what to plant next. The poppy is the California state flower and has bright orange flowers. They have silvery and green leaves too. They are really pretty. I am also growing poppy seeds. Narrow Leaf Milkweed is a very pretty and lush native and attracts Monarch Butterflies. They have colorful flowers in the Spring. The Salmon Pink Yarrow has Salmon pink flowers and is very soft and bushy. The Verbena De La Mina is a bush that flowers all year round and can tolerate any kind of soil. The flowers are purple and are very pretty. Here are some pictures of my California Native garden. Look at the baby poppy seedlings! 🙂

A few weeks ago, I went to a South Pasadena community plant swap with my friend. At that plant swap, I got the poppy and the milkweed. Both plants were so skinny and looked dead with no leaves. After them being in the ground for a few weeks, they have grown a ton. The milkweed is really important for the Monarch Butterflies and I care about the Monarch Butterflies. I care about the Monarch Butterflies because they are a native species and are very good pollinators. They are also endangered because people in our state have plant plants that are non-native and the Monarchs don’t like that.
